Book recommendations to finish this year
1. “Micro Joys” by Cyndie Spiegel
Cindy Spiegel is actually a close personal friend of Leadology CEO Carrie Skowronski. Carrie often credits Cindy’s influence for it gave her the courage to step out of a full-time corporate job and start a business- Leadology! This book is short essays or stories of finding joy through heartache and hardship. For anyone who has gone through losses and other difficult situations, this book will help you with finding the courage to experience joy.
2. “The Small and the Mighty” by Sharon McMahon
Available now for pre-order, this is by our friend Sharon McMahon who you might know from famous Instagram account @sharonsaysso. As a former government teacher, Sharon was inspired by misinformation that was happening during the 2020 election, and decided that as a teacher she had a responsibility to share actual facts about the American government and Constitution. She tries to share a balanced and unbiased perspective from all sides, leaving her own political affiliations out of it.
3. “The Loud Brown Round Girl : Rejecting Assumptions That Do Not Define Me” by Gigi Gilliard
Gigi is a fellow coach and has been doing really meaningful work around DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion). DEI can be a vulnerable topic for people that leads to very vulnerable work as they explore their own unconscious biases. Gigi does it in a way that makes people feel safe and good, sharing her generous belief that everyone is capable and there's goodness in everyone.
While Leadology's core focus is on practical leadership training and coaching, we believe that expanding one's knowledge through diverse perspectives is crucial for becoming a well-rounded, empathetic leader. These "Friends of Leadology" book recommendations offer insights that can complement the skills and strategies covered in our programs.
Whether you're a new manager or seasoned pro, HR leader, or executive, we encourage you to explore these titles and consider how the lessons they impart can be applied to your own leadership journey. By embracing a range of voices and experiences, you'll be better equipped to foster stronger communication, build more cohesive teams, and drive meaningful results for your organization.
